Just a moment of impatience - taking a seemingly long time to submit the reply, so I hit the submit button again to give it a hurry along. But hey, it's a good way to boost your numbers
cheeses the impatient one.
when we were jw's , we taught people door to door that the pope made himself mediator between men and god.
"mathew 23:10".
but now the watchtower does the same thing by telling the great crowd that jesus is not their mediator.

I wish people would stop poking fun at the pope - he's my hero. Represents so much about the catholic church and religion as a whole. Besides, he's so good for a laugh and such an inspiration for the advancement of medical science. Just think of the technology involved in making it appear as though he is really a living person. Simply amazing! The WTS could only look on in wonder.

is it just me, or there others who have no room for religion in their lives?.
i appreciate that others are entitled to their beliefs and opinions concerning such beliefs, but i am amazed at the number of posters, who, after years of being oppressed and mislead by religion, still manage to garner some sense from the whole notion of god / religion / spirituality.. cheeses the cynic.
logansrun,
I know we have diverged from the original concept of this topic. Only speculation is involved as to whether the existence of so-called 'alien life-forms' could offer any solution to mankind's problems.
But what we do know with certainty is that life does exist on the planet we call Earth. Could it not be reasonable to consider that, since we have irrefutable evidence of own own existence, that we could rightly speculate that other planets could support life - whether it came to be on such planet through an evolutionary process or because of the 'purpose' of a 'Creator'?
That's just my opinion, but, in conclusion, referring back to the topic subject - WHO CARES?
cheeses (oh, another point - make sure you get the spelling right)

logansrun,
I consider myself a Realist - life is our existence, and is often described as being "that often troubled length of time from conception to death". What, if anything at all, exists beyond that period of time, will only be revealed when we die. No person knows for certain, and the basis of many religions are only well meaning guesses and hopes for any future beyond death.
DantheMan,
Agreed, I also have troubling comprehending that we are 'alone' in this existence. Probability alone, based on life on our own planet, should give credence to the notion that surely, amongst all of the billions of galaxies containing billions of stars in the 'known' universe there are suns with orbiting solar systems that would be able to sustain life as we know it, and possibly of life which we could not even begin to imagine. Chances are future generations might discover the answers to such theorising.
cheeses in a reflective mood.
elder d came to our house with a publisher who's 80 years old.
my dad was talking to them in the livivng room as i came down for my lunch.
i sat down at the table and the elder d said "hi ya, all right?
Mulan,
Seems like you did the right thing by leaving the door of opportunity open for them to return. When they do - do as maverick suggested - nothing serious - just a little bout of food poisoning. That should make them think twice about coming back another time.
cheeses - who believes a little salmonella in the fridge never goes astray.
i am not now, nor have i ever been a jw but i have seen their propensity to try to play up being persecuted.
a friend of mine who is a jw (and the reason i sought out these message forums) made it abundantly clear that she thought (and i guess was encouraged to think) that most everything was persecution because "people hate jw's.".
now, from my experience i can say that i don't think people actually hate jw.
Jay Dudds wear persecution as some sort of badge of honour - the medical term is Martyr Syndrome.

it seems like every service meeting they are suggesting we give toward one thing or another.
even printed in several of the watchtowers or awakes that it would be ok to leave all our belongings to the society in our will.
we can't give blood, but they sure are asking for it.
I wouldn't give the org or anyone associated with it so much as the steam off my s**t.
In fact, I would like to know if I can reclaim the money that I was stupid enough to donate to them in the past.
cheeses - who couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous a question was posed as this tpoic.
to become a witness, you must leave everything behind and associate only with jw's.
did you think that you really were going to only associate with jehovah's witnesses and no one else???
---------- after you left or got df'd, did you regain your past "worldly" friendships or were they forever lost?
My experience was that so-called 'friendship' in the 'truth' was very shallow. If you are not part of the clique, then you may as well be a leper.
Upon awakening to the sugar-coated love and fellowship that was demonstrated, and realising just how superficial it all was, I came to understand that none of the people whom I may have counted as friends in the org, displayed that quality which is often considered a major factor when privileged to share a friendship - loyalty. The fact was, that I never had any friends in the org and a significant regret in my life was that I gave my so-called 'worldly' friends the same shameful treatment many years earlier when I accepted the 'truth'.
If you choose a life contrary to the one selected by the WTBTS then your 'friends' will wipe you like a dirty arse.
